Kaleidoscopic glasses production blog post 1

I’ve bought the Kaleidoscopes.

I have the Arduino board.

I have the Arduino Cookbook and Programming Interactivity.

I’m still waiting for advice on where to source a decent microphone. The cookbook says to use the BOB-08669

This item has been discontinued and upgraded to the  BOB-09964

Clearly they made a lot of changes.

I’m going to use the sketch that makes the BOB-08669 calculate the velocity of sound and turn on an LED once it hits a certain level.

(Recipe 6.7)

I’m then going to alter the sketch so that a servo responds too the noise coming in.

The higher the velocity, the quicker the servo spins.
The servos will be rigged too the end of the Keliedoscopes and turn them using something a little better looking than a rubber band.

Most probably a gold rubber band.

Once this is done I will fix them too trial frames (in the post now, I’m Excited!). This will allow users to adjust the viewfinder to their own head shape.

Once they are set up I will counterweight them so they don’t fall off.

After that.. I will work on a model that has headphones attached and can store mp3s in the headset. The servos will then react to the MP3 files. (Thanks Charlotte for that idea)

If so, I’ll rig it up too some of these Philips retro headphones for aesthetic pleasure.

I’m looking forward to keeping you updated on this.
