I am analogue
The internet is to information as Digital photography is to analogue.
It’s good if I want instant results, but it looses some of the magic.
I like that I have a drawer full of films I haven’t developed yet and that I have forgotten what is on them. They span the last 3 years of university. I will get them developed when I leave. This means at the time of graduation I will trigger nostalgia which would not exist if they were already displayed too me on a screen on the back of the camera.
Whats my rush anyway? When I rush I always end up fucking things up.
I think the best thing I have learned about digital technology since being on this digital media course is that I abuse digital.
I’ll make do with dodgy photos, 35mm videos and expensive processing fees.
I like the magic, not the efficiency.
I will be working with digital technology in the future, it’s hard to escape now. I’ll just be making things to make fun of us though, like tamagotchi cigarettes and speaker boxes that make the sound of a phone box ringing until someone opens the phone box door…. Then it stops for between 10 and 30 seconds and starts again. I won’t be there to see it in action because it’s the thought that counts.
